This book is such a great devotional. My husband and I normally despise devotionals, but him and I started reading this together all I can say is that it’s absolutely excellent!!! The questions at the end of each chapter are great, they’re not basic Sunday school questions although those aren’t bad, these ones actually make you think and reflect on your life and any sin that’s lingering around.

After reading the older version many years ago along with others who then lived out the principles in this book while working together, I can say that the content is Biblical and helps to produce a work ethic in those who prayerfully apply the lessons it contains. Thankful to Russ for this modern and more readable version!

The original text in olde English may at times carry an ethos that is had to reproduce in modern vernacular, but Rice does an excellent job with re-presenting Steele's ideas. Rice has created a translation that makes the text seamless and frictionless, without compromising any of the outline and argumentative support. With that, I found The Religious Tradesman to be encouraging, edifying, admonishing, and applicable to my own work as a self-employed private instructor. Steele's chapters run the gamut between the nature and process of work, working with and alongside others, and our lives around work. Steele's original Scripture references are included at the end of each chapter, and they are thorough without leaving one wanting. Highly recommended.

The message of this book is much needed for today’s worker. Rooted in the word of God, it drives home many important/practical lessons that have been neglected not only in western culture but also within the church. I can’t recommend this book enough. Every member of the family can learn lessons from it. The 9-5 husband, the stay at home mom, and the teen stepping into the world of biblical workmanship. This should be firmly taught at churches and schools and ingrained into the minds of everyone seeking to please God in their work.
